Hammerhedd: three young brothers playing metal music

Normally when I see a thumbnail with bunch of kids playing instruments I don’t really expect much. But there was this one video that got my attention, and clearly I wasn’t dissapointed at all when I saw three young guys thrashing and smashing in front of a garage.

Those three young metalheads were Henry, Eli and Abe and their metal band is called Hammerhedd. It’s really amusing to hear insane riffs and technically advanced compositions, and then realizing the band was not couple of „dads living in the past“, but three insanely talented adolescents. They already released an EP called „Essencce Of Iron“ and an album called „Grand Currents“. Here’s what Hammerhedd told us about their musical path:

How old were you when you started playing?

We started in 2012, so we were 12,9, and 6.

How did you get into metal music?

We just sort of found our way to metal after our dad showed us some of his favorite bands (Led Zeppelin, Rush, Boston, etc,).

Which video made your YouTube channel and career explode?

Our most viewed video is the one of us playing Metallica covers on the street in 2016 – that one gave us a lot of exposure.

How did your parents react to your music?

Our parents are very supportive of the band! They have been massively helpful from the day we started the band up until now.

How many shows are behind you and which one was your favorite?

I would guess we’ve played around 50 shows. Our favorite one so far was at the Riot Room opening up for the mighty Power Trip. That was a crazy show!

You released a new album called Grand Currents. Tell us more about it.

We are very proud of Grand Currents! We’ve been working on it for a long time, and we think it’s a huge step up from our first EP.

You seem to have an incredible groove. What’s the secret?

Thank you! We just jam a ton together, and we really focus on groove and tightness in our live sound.  We think those are two of the most important parts of our sound!

What do you expect from your music career in the future?

We hope to keep putting out albums and playing live shows. All we hope for is to make a living out of Hammerhedd one day.

If you could open for a band, which one would it be?

That’s a tough one, there’s too many bands we’d love to open for! A few of the top ones would be Mastodon, Tool, Gojira, Meshuggah, Primus, and Metallica.  Maybe someday!
